Introduction the WISC-V

Audience:

Current Registered Psychologists, Registered Provisional Psychologists, and Masters level Clinical Psychology/Applied Psychology/Counseling students.

Prerequisites:

Masters level introductory course in formal assessment.

Objectives:

This course has limited enrolment and is conducted in-person to ensure that all participants have the opportunity for hands-on learning and feedback

Part I: Introduction to WISC-V Administration

 

  • What is cognitive testing – what does it help us to understand about an individual? What are the limitations of cognitive testing?
  • Background history of the WISC-V, theoretical underpinnings
  • Explanation of FSIQ, Index Scores, Ancillary Scores, and subtests – what do these scores reflect, what do they measure?
  • Hands-on practice administration of the WISC-V
  • Feedback on administration of the WISC-V regarding building rapport, managing materials, managing queries, adhering to standardized instructions, and scoring.

Part II: WISC-V Interpretation and Report Writing

  • Review of how to score the WISC-V subtests
  • Interpreting the FSIQ, Index scores, Ancillary scores, and individual subtests
  • Understanding and interpreting score discrepancies – when discrepancies are meaningful and how to make sense of them
  • Making the results come alive – application of results to real world implications
  • When more testing is called for and ideas of what more testing might look like
  • Practice writing up results and receive feedback.
